LEGO Football Grounds

Posted by Steve • 4th March 2021

My first LEGO football ground was a 10,000+ piece model of St James' Park for the Newcastle United Foundation back in 2017 - one of my earliest commissions. A few years later I developed a much smaller version with instructions for the Foundation to build with patients on the Children's cancer ward at the RVI in Newcastle. It got some great feedback and the patients got to keep the model they made. In recent months I've returned to this scale for a range of Northern landmarks models (not just football grounds) that are available through my new range BUILDABLE, which now has its own online shop.

Football grounds hold extreme importance to many people, whether you're a season-ticket holder or a less regular visitor, full of happy, and perhaps frustrating, memories! I have to confess I'm not a massive football fan - Ipswich Town are my team when I check in on the leagues, an inheritance from my dad. But having lived in or near Newcastle for 20 years, the importance of the game cannot be underestimated in this football-mad area. For me, with a deep interest in architecture and landmarks, football grounds are fascinating because of the almost-sacred status of them, even if they do not always score highly on architectural merit!

My range currently includes St James' Park and Anfield, with Old Trafford and Etihad available to pre-order for later in the year. There are others in the pipeline. Whilst there are no limits on the number of instruction-only options through the shop, the Limited Edition boxed sets I'm releasing in quantities of no more than 20 max, so get in quick if you want one! They all come with a quality gift box which is signed and numbered, printed instruction booklet, and of course all the parts needs to make your very own LEGO football ground.
